Howard A. Tullman is the President/CEO of Flashpoint Academy, Chairman/CEO of Experiencia, Inc., and immediate past President of Kendall College. Mr. Tullman is General Managing Partner of the Chicago High Tech Investors, LLC and a Director of The Cobalt Group and Passage Events. He is also a Trustee of WTTW, Chairman of the Endowment Committee of Anshe Emet Synagogue, a member of the board of advisors for HighTower Advisors, a member of Mayor Daley’s Council of Technology Advisors, an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a guest lecturer at the Northwestern University School of Law.

QYou, Scott Jones, and Mahendra Vora are prolific founders. What drives you, Howard?

AI've been privileged to be able to pursue so many exciting ideas and create so many different companies. I'd say the greatest driver and the most satisfaction both come from the same idea. I love to build places where people are excited about what they're doing and have a chance to learn, grow, and really create their futures through their own talent and hard work.

QCCC was a home run.

AI practiced law for 10 years and retired in 1980 to start CCC, which is now about 30 years old. It's a large public company that provides information to the automobile and insurance industries. I took it public in 1983 and sold it in 1987 for $100 million, which was real money back then.

QThen you had more home runs.

AWell, in the mid-'90s, we launched most of the music sites for the web, including Rollingstone.com, TheSource.com, DownBeatJazz.com, and a little site called Tunes.com. We sold Tunes.com to eMusic for $136 million. I had a great little computer game development company called Imagination Pilots, which is ultimately one of the reasons I started Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy. And before and after that I've had another four or five businesses and done a couple of turnarounds.
